We were approached through a friend about a poker fundraiser event. At first we weren’t too sure how we could help or what we could bring to the table. After the flyer sat on our counter for 2 weeks, overwhelmed with work, kids, family, more work… we finally called to get the details. We connected with the Azaria family right away. We both had a boy & a girl, same ages, and actually competed against each other in the kids flag football. This amazing husband and wife were organizing a fundraiser for their son, Levi. Sweet 8 year old Levi has autism and was in need of a service dog to help with some of his autistic needs. My husband and I didn’t know much about service dogs or the process that goes into training one. Trust us, it’s a lot and the help these sweet dogs can provide is incredible! We were all in! Danny and I built a table in 10 days, ordered a custom felt and had that baby ready for the big event! The night was incredible, we meet so many amazing people. People from our community that we have crossed paths with before, and others that became friends that night. It was fun and not to brag but I made the final table…not mentioning my re-buys! 😉
Our table was auctioned off and raised $1200 for Paws for Autism. There were so many generous sponsors and volunteers that really made this event more than any of us could have imagined. The event raised over $21,000! This doesn’t only allow Levi to have his very own service dog, but there is left over money that will go to another children with the same needs.
Danny & I are so grateful to our friend that put our name in their ear. This will be annual event and it is all of our vision to keep growing this tradition and building the nonprofit- Paws for Autism. We all hope there is a future for an Arizona chapter, we will keep you posted!
